40s Flair at New York Fashion Week – Jenny Packham

I was so amazed by Jenny Packham´s Fall/Winter Collection for 2012/13 at New York Fashion Week. She managed to take the most typical and charming elements of the American 40s (like the hairstyle, the shoulders and the v-neck robes), mixed it with almost architectural details and cuts up to an elegant, feminin, still modern and chic look. I´m in love!

P.S.:I think I´m slowly coming back to my “old habbits”. I really enjoy my new job, I have new haicolor (again, I know!) and I guess I´ll be starting to do more for this place here again:) Today I´m going to shop at the “Boutiki” in Kreuzberg and cook some delicious pasta for me and my love… What are your plans for the Weekend?

…it´s been a while but during the past weeks I found myself lost in chanings. Today I´m moving to a new departement in the company I work for, which means that I´m starting at a new job:) I´m very excited and, since I´m a little scared cat, afraid of all the new adventues and challenges that are waiting for me. I was thinking of this change for a long time and now it finally happens, so it´s a huge step for me.

In the same time, I´m totally obsessed with my hair again, scrolling through endless tumblrs every night, looking for the perfect change for my head too. I´m already bored and have the feeling I really need to do something crazy with my hair, as long as I´m under 30 since I actually never had some really creazy creation in my hair… I´m dreaming of something between Dita von Teese and Adora Batbrat… you see, it´s complicated!

So please be a little bit patient with me! Give me one more week and I´ll be back

While I´m in my “changing phase” I can hardly recommend a film I saw last Weekend: The remake of “Fright Night” . Beside it´s a really cool vampire-movie (which are met rarely as every vampire fan will know), Colin Farell is one of the hottest vampires in movie history from now on!:D rrrr!

The trailer is much worse than the film…

Berlin Fashion Week – Lena Hoschek A/W 2012 – Part II

Sitting second row at the Lena Hoschek Show at Berlin Fashion Week felt like there´s nothing more I could wish for. Again the collection left me totally suprised, inspired and blown away.

The Fall/Winter collection for 2012 was strongly influenced by the charmes and the extremes of the late 30s and early 40s. Light and delicate fabrics like transparent lace and silk met heavy knitted cardigans, tweet and masculine trenchcoats. Floating, shimmering dresses crushed on stiff jackets with big shoulders, inspired by the fashion during WWII.

And THEN there was this beautiful styling: The models wore pin curls, flirty baretts and very dark lipstick, which all gave them a dolly but still elegant look.

As usual, the Lena Hoschek show was the perfect time travel! I enjoyed it so much and already start saving money to get me some of the beautiful designs!

Hollywood Legends: Yvonne De Carlo

Yvonne De Carlo, 1922 in Vancouver geboren, lernte von Kindesbeinen an Tanzen und Singen, was ihr den Weg nach Hollywood ebnen sollte. Und obwohl sie bereits mit 15 Jahren das erste Mal dort hin fuhr um ihre Karriere anzukurbeln, hatte sie es zunächst nicht einfach: In den Kriegsjahren war sie auf Grund ihres exotischen Aussehens nicht besonders gefragt. Erst 1945 konnte sie im Western „Salome Where She Danced“ ihren Durchbruch feiern. Der Streifen, der von Kritikern gehasst, aber vom Publikum geliebt wurde, brachte ihr endlich bessere Rollen ein. Nach einigen Engagements, unter anderem in „Zelle R 17“ und „Gewagtes Alibi“, entstand 1956 schließlich ihr größter Film: „Die zehn Gebote“, in welchem sie die Sephora, die Frau von Moses spielte. Danach regnete es Rollen an der Seite der bekanntesten Filmgrößen und Gastauftritte in den beliebtesten Fernsehserien.

Apropos Serien: Die Rolle, die sie beim Publikum am stärksten prägte, und in der auch wir sie noch in Erinnerung haben könnten, war definitiv die der Lily Munster in der Serie „The Munsters“, die von 1964 bis 1966 ausgestrahlt wurde. Auch wenn das Ende der Munsters Ära für Yvonne von einem privaten Drama überschattet wurde: Denn die auf der Serie basierenden Filme, die 1966 und 1981 gedreht wurden, nahm Yvonne nur an, um die Krankenhauskosten für ihren Mann decken zu können, der bei einem Filmdreh lebensgefährlich verletzt worden war.

Yvonne erhielt erhielt 1971 großes Lob für ihre musikalische Darbietung im Broadway Musical „Follies“. Außerdem wurden ihr zwei Sterne auf dem Hollywood Walk of Fame gewidmet.

Yvonne De Carlo starb im stolzen Alter von 84 Jahren im Motion Picture & Television Altersheim in Los Angeles.

Yvonne De Carlo, born in 1922 in Vancouver, started taking singing and dancing lessons as a child, to once find a place in Hollywood. But when she first came there with 15 years she had to face that it wouldn´t be that easy as her mother and she expected it to be: Her first years there became a hard time, since her exotic look wasn´t questioned in the years of war.

Finally in 1945 she had her first successful role in the movie „Salome Where She Danced“. From this moment on she could start climbing up in Hollywood with better roles in bigger productions on the side of other popular stars. BUT the one character for that she became famous then and now was Lily Munster, of course. Although she had to make the two movies that were produced in 1966 and 1981 after the serial to pay the doctors bills for her husband.

Yvonne De Carlo got two stars on the Walk of Fame for her movie and serial performances.

She died at age of 84 in the Motion Pictures & Television Seniors Home in Los Angeles.

The dress that you never wear…

Around two years ago I bought this vintage dress in Hamburg. It captured me immediately with it´s 40s design, the long button tab and the velvet fringes.I wore it last Sunday for the first time so I wanted to keep this in pictures…but winters dull light keeps sabotaging me this year. It´s just simply too dark in Berlin! And rainy.

The Artist

Yesterday a collegue of mine was invited to the German premiere of a very unique and special film: “The Artist”. It´s a mordern production but realized with technical and creative methods and elements from the 1920s. It´s a silent film, black and white, telling the classical 20s story of a carbaret dancer and artist. I´m really sad I wasn´t there yesterday, since the dresscode was themed “1920s”. But I´m really curious about the film! It comes to German cinemas on January 26th.

The king is dead. Long live the king.

2011 is over. The only thing I want to say about it is: It was an exciting year for me in many ways and it went by almost too quick. Anyway 2012 also keeps ready many new adventures, suprises and challenges for me!

We celebrated New Years Eve organising a little cocktail and Raclett party with another couple. It started with a bottle of Martini but ended abruptly after we all ate lots of little pans filled with veggies and cheese!

I didn´t have te time to make pictures of my whole outfit. I wore a vintage navy blue dress with little dots on it. This is how the rest of me looked:)
